Introduction

When our nephew and his fiancee told us that they were going to be married in her home country of South Africa we made the decision to use this as the ideal opportunity to visit a part of the world we had never been to before.

Recognising that organising this kind of trip might be difficult for us to do, even over the Internet, we enlisted the help of Pam Roper at "The Unpackaged Travel Company" (http://www.unpackagedtravel.co.uk). A few phone calls and exchange of emails and we had our itinerary. So, as we began the new year, excitement levels were high.

Unfortunately I was unwell just before our planned departure date which had to be postponed for a few days. Pam reorganised our flights with KLM from Bristol to Cape Town via Amsterdam with great efficiency.

We decided to miss out on our time in Cape Town and pick up our itinerary where we would have been. A good excuse for a return at some point in the future.

It was a very close thing but at crack of dawn on Monday 29th January our taxi arrived and we were off on our great South African adventure.
